Cheshire Connecticut
Cheshire Connecticut
If you were to Google "Cheshire”, your search might reveal that it is the plant bedding capital of Connecticut. You may also find that it is known for the annual Lights of Hope Festival, that it is ranked # 73 on CNN Money Magazine's "Best Places to Live" list, or that it is the hometown of famed hockey player Brian Leetch and baseball catcher Brad Asmus.
But none of these results would reveal what Cheshire is truly about. Cheshire is the type of town that is hard to come by these days. Its historic colonial homes, farms, and scenic landscapes provide the small town, New England feel that many of today’s homebuyers long for. As more people discover this hidden treasure of a town, Cheshire continues to function as a thriving suburban community, while maintaining its old fashioned values and traditions.
Cheshire Landscape
Cheshire’s many farms and their colorfully filled greenhouses earn the town the title of bedding plant capital of CT. Cheshire also has thousands of acres of open space that separate the many residential neighborhoods. The landscape also boasts many parks and trails for hiking and bicycling! This combined with residential, industrial and retail space gives Cheshire a unique blend of the best.
Cheshire Community Involvement
The Lights of Hope Festival is a signature Cheshire event which is so popular that it has gained national attention. Created to bring together town residents and volunteers, it helps the town to celebrate hope, remember loss, and support multiple causes important to the community. This serves as a significant example of how the residents of Cheshire are active in the community and share a common concern for the quality of life in their town. Civic groups here are dedicated to promoting, providing, and preserving the high standard of living. Annual events are a staple of Cheshire living - from the Congregational Church Strawberry Festival each June, to the Chamber of Commerce Fall Festival in September. There are also carnivals each spring and fall, a Memorial Day Parade, and the Cheshire Relay for Life - each one is an excuse to bring the town a little closer together.
One of the Best Places to Live
It's not just Sally Bowman Real Estate and "Cheshirites" that think this town is amazing. Our praise is backed up by none other than CNN's Money Magazine. In their 2011 Best Places list, they named its historic charm, affordable living and convenient location to urban centers as Cheshire’s winning qualities. Located in New Haven County, with easy access to highways I-91, I-84, I-691, and Rt 15 (Merritt Parkway), it does make for an easy commute to both New Haven and Hartford, while still within reach of both New York City and Boston. It also boasts beautiful homes, from large colonials with expansive backyards to newer developments, at prices you couldn't find in neighboring urban centers. However, what makes a place to live so great is often not describable in location, facts and figures, but in the feel that you get when you walk into that town.
