Cheshire Connecticut

If you google Cheshire, your search will likely show that Cheshire is The Bedding Plant Capital of Connecticut. You’ll also probably see that Cheshire is known for its annual Lights of Hope fundraiser, was listed #45 on this year’s Money Magazine’s Best Places to Live, and is the hometown of famed hockey player Brian Leetch and baseball catcher Brad Asmus.

None of these results reveal what Cheshire is truly about, though. Cheshire is a rare gem among towns. It’s historic, colonial era homes, farms, and scenic landscapes provide a traditional New England small town experience that homebuyers long for. As Cheshire’s population continues to grow, it has managed to balance its rural heritage and residential charm with its flourishing commercial and industrial sectors.

Cheshire Landscape
Cheshire’s farming past continues today, and has earned it the distinction of Bedding Plant Capital of Connecticut. Fields and greenhouses dot the town growing vegetables and the vibrant flowers that make it so well known. They blend into the residential landscape of historic homes and tree-lined neighborhoods. Locals can also enjoy Cheshire's thousands of acres of dedicated open space. Industrial and retail spaces tastefully complete the make-up of the town.

Cheshire Community Involvement
Cheshire’s Lights of Hope fundraiser celebrates its tenth year of bring together neighbors for local causes. It unites Cheshire as it celebrates hope, remembers loss, and ultimately supports local causes that mean so much to the community. It is but one example of the active community lifestyle that exists in town. Residents are committed to the quality of life in town, and there are many civic groups dedicated to just that. Some other annual events that Cheshire continues to celebrate include The Congregational Church’s Strawberry Festival in June, The Cheshire Chamber of Commerce’s Fall Festival and spring and fall carnivals. There is also a Memorial Day Parade, Cheshire Relay For Life, and countless other events put on throughout the year. Each is designed to bring the community a little closer together.

One of the Best Places to Live

It’s not just us here at Sally Bowman Real Estate and Cheshirites that thing this town is amazing. Money Magazine continues to list us on its Best Places to Live list. The magazine describes its winning qualities as its historic charm, affordable living, and convenient location to urban centers. It’s easy to see why Cheshire is a commuter’s dream. Cheshire is centrally located within the state and has easy access to I-91, I-84, I-691, and Rt 15 (Merritt Parkway), which make for an easy to commute to New Haven, Hartford, and other urban areas in the region. They also provide easy access to Boston and New York. Cheshire also boasts large historic homes and newer developments with houses in all price ranges. What makes a place great to live in, however, is not often described in location or facts and figures, but in the feel that you get when you walk into town.
