Giving Back in Cheshire
Part of what makes Cheshire, CT a great place to live is the emanating sense of community. There are so many ways to give back to others in Cheshire. Whether you donate your time, money, or something that could save a life like bone marrow or blood, there are several opportunities to do so this week in Cheshire and close by.
Be the Match Bone Marrow Drive
Today at Southern Connecticut University in New Haven, anyone between the ages of 18 and 60 who is in good health can join the “Be the Match Registry.” When you stop in any time from 10:00am to 3:00pm April 25, 2011 you’ll be given information on what it means to join the registry and representatives will be available to field any questions or concerns you might have. All your visit will require is a check swab or a blood sample so you can be matched to people you can help. If you can’t make it out of Cheshire today, it’s easy to join the registry online. This is a great, painless way to make yourself available to help your family, friends and neighbors in Cheshire!
Cheshire High School Spring Blood Drive
Did you know you can save three people’s lives every time you donate blood? On Thursday, April 28, 2011 do your part right here in Cheshire at the Cheshire High School Spring Blood Drive. Donors must be 17 years old or older, and must be a student, faculty, staff, or a parent of a Cheshire High School student to register for the blood drive. According to the American Red Cross, only 38% of Americans are eligible to donate blood, and of that 38% only 8% actually do. Before you register online for the drive at Cheshire High School, find out if you’re eligible by checking out the Red Cross’ specific eligibility requirements. If you can’t attend the blood drive this week, keep checking the American Red Cross page for Connecticut for an event near you!
