When you’re searching for a new home in the Cheshire area, the house itself isn’t the only important aspect to investigate. Finding a place in your community that meshes with your preferences and lifestyle will be imperative to your happiness in your new home. How do you find the perfect neighborhood?  Follow these five steps for investigating different areas in Cheshire until you reach a perfect fit.

Picture Your Perfect Neighborhood
There are several questions you need to ask yourself when you think about what Cheshire neighborhood you’d like to live in. For starters, what type of home do you want? You’ll have to consider single family homes, condos, and townhouses.  Would you prefer a single-story home, or a luxury Colonial? If you have children or plan on having children in the future, you’ll want to consider how close your home will be to the Cheshire schools, parks, and community center. What is your current neighborhood lacking that you’d like to find near your new home? Evaluating what you’re missing now is a great place to start when thinking about what you do want in your new Cheshire neighborhood.

Narrow Down the Area
Once you’ve profiled your ideal neighborhood, do some research based on your criteria until you have zeroed in on a specific area in Cheshire. Will you be working in Cheshire? Start searching near your new job to cut down commute time. If you’ll be working in a neighboring town, search along Cheshire’s borders. There's something for everyone in Cheshire. Wide open spaces and residential areas offer versatility in choosing a neighborhood to live in, and industrial and retail spaces nearby offer job opportunities and recreation.

Compile Information
Now that you’ve selected a specific area of Cheshire to search for a home in, look up information on that particular area. You’ll want to save information on public and private schools in Cheshire. Selecting the right school for your children will make the transition to a new neighborhood much smoother. For adults and children alike, being close to a park or community center can be important. There are several parks in Cheshire that have amenities such as a pool, sports fields, a skateboarding park, picnic pavilions, biking and walking trails, and more.

Visit in Person
With all of your research in hand, visit each of the Cheshire neighborhoods that met all of your criteria. First impressions are important, so make sure to take note of how each area strikes you as a community. Is this a place you can picture yourself calling home? Visit each neighborhood at different times of day. Notice if people are outside mingling, or keep to themselves. Does it appear that the neighborhood has a lot of children? Even if you don’t, drive around the Cheshire area schools to see how they measure up to your expectations. Another great way to find out what a neighborhood is really like is to talk to the people who actually live in the particular areas. You can never do too much investigating in a place you want to call home.

Choose a Home
You’ve finally reached the point where you can search for your Cheshire home in a very specific area. If you can, drive around frequently and keep your eye out for new homes on the market. If you’re relocating from afar, be notified of new listings by email, or search online.  Set your budget, decide what type of home-loan works best for you, and write down everything you want in your future home.

With all of the research behind you, the next step is to visit the Cheshire homes that interest you. As a Cheshire resident and real estate expert, I’d be happy to show you the stunning homes Cheshire has to offer. Please contact me to get started in the search for your dream home in Cheshire!
