Cheshire Connecticut is privileged enough to be home to a very prestigious college preparatory school known as Cheshire Academy. The school has students from approximately 30 countries around the world with a total student body of 387 students, divided into middle school (grades 6-8) and upper school (grades 9-12). I have mentioned Cheshire Academy in a past blog, but I find it's worth mentioning again, this time, to shine light on the multitude of activities that are available to these Cheshire students through their first class education system.

Here is just a sampling of some of the programs that they offer to make your child more well-rounded and open minded than ever thought possible at such a young age.

The Arts
The Art Department at Cheshire Academy is a combination of the Visual Arts, as well as Music and Theater. Classes range from choir and chorus, to acting and production, to drawing and photography. From there, students can take their skills and present them in many forms - show their artwork around campus and local galleries, visit professionals in the art field, or attend productions and lectures. It's no surprise, then, that Cheshire Academy graduates have gone to some of the finest visual and performing art programs in the country.

Athletics
Cheshire Academy has something they call the "Afternoon Program." It mandates students to enter the field of athletics and after school programs. Inexperienced newcomers are just as welcome as highly trained athletes - each expertly trained by coaches and teachers. All students participate in the Afternoon Program, influencing all children to be active and learn to work on a team, but also giving creative options if they prefer other activities like Community Service or Yearbook Editor. They have a varied selection of sports - from your basics like Baseball, Basketball, Football and Track, to special offerings like Archery, Ski Club, and Ultimate Frisbee.

Clubs and Organizations
The possibilities are endless when it comes to the organizations Cheshire Academy offers. From community service, to academic clubs, to peer to peer programs, you would be amazed at what middle and high school kids can accomplish. Here is a rundown of just a select few: CATS, a competiing A Capella Group, the Coleman Group, a leadership and personal well-being group, the Mac Users club, for all those who love to expand their knowledge of Mac computers, and Eco-Leaders, an environmental leadership group responsible for raising awareness about recycling and the earth.

If you are considering moving to Cheshire, Connecticut and have thought about private school for your children, Cheshire Academy is the top of the line. People travel the world over just to send their children there. Living in Cheshire, however, means having this caliber of eduation available right in your backyard.

Cheshire Academy or not, Cheshire is a wonderful community for raising and educating children. It represents the qualities of what was once a small town, but has grown into a booming New Haven suburb - a close knit community, close neighbors, and long running businesses, paired with culture, education, and incredible opportunity like that of the Cheshire Academy.
